A Canadian study suggests that children whose parents divorce are almost twice as likely to be on Ritalin compared with those who live with two biological parents.
However, the study, which was based on The Statistics Canada survey, did not include questions to test if Ritalin is prescribed inappropriately to children of divorce.
Dr. Anton Miller, a developmental pediatrician and child health researcher at the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Community Child Health Research, says, “the stress of dealing with ADHD behavior in a child may contribute to divorce”.
