It can be challenging to know how to support a friend or family member going through a divorce.

Below are a few tips from some experts on how to lend a hand to those going through a divorce:

1) If you were friends with both spouses before the marriage, try not to take sides, especially if there are kids in the picture. Experts suggest remaining neutral.

2) Ask how you can help. Be available to listen or just be a shoulder they can lean on.

3) Avoid comments like, “Your better off without him!” They need the opportunity to grieve and heal and comments like these usually make it worse.

4) Don’t try to set them up with a new partner to help fix things because the healing process takes a while, some longer than others.
