How often do courts know about intimate partner violence when child custody is being considered? Perhaps parents who committ spousal abuse should not, in the best interest of a child, have sole or joint custody. According to a release by Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center , only 17 percent of fathers with a known history of substantiated IPV were denied child visitation.
