International Women’s Day was on March 8, so this is a few days late. But I wanted to give an update on a recent bill that was passed in the N.C. House and is headed for the Senate.

H46, a bill to study possible security guidelines for domestic violence shelters operated by state-funded agencies and provide secure areas for domestic violence victims waiting in court for their cases to be heard.

Last October a woman was murdered in western North Carolina by her batterer at a domestic violence shelter. Lisa Angel of Rosen Law Firm, who is also chair of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission, says more money is needed to increase security at shelters statewide.
