So my last post referred to a recent article about how the U.S. divorce rate is currently at a 27 year low. I think the big question is why? Some speculate it’s because there are fewer marriages while others say it’s because we are marrying smarter and later.
Also, some research shows that there are now fewer second marriages. Thirty years ago the recently divorced tended to remarry soon after their divorce.
Others, like Bill Coffin, Department of Health and Human Services’ special assistant for marriage education, correlate the low divorce rate to the Bush administration’s Healthy Marriage initiative, which in the last five years has disbursed over $200 million nationwide.
