The Economist recently ran an article about the discrepancy between high and low income marriages and child-rearing.
An interesting statistic:
92% of children whose families earn $75,000 + annually live with two parents ( includes step parents) and families that earn less than $15,000 annually, only 20% of those children live with both parents.
